While we were in New York for Fashion Week, I had a crazy list of places I wanted to try. Vivi Bubble Tea, home of the cotton candy float, was one of them, and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
We stopped in on our way to a meeting at the bloglovin’ offices, and ordered the house specialty, a matcha boba float. It was incredible- with the matcha shake only lightly sweetened to allow for the giant cloud of cotton candy, creamy and refreshing and caffeinated.
I was then and remain obsessed with cotton candy shakes, so in typical loveRavayna style, I decided to take action into my own hands.
Enter one of my Chanukah presents: the at-home cotton candy machine.
Being able to spin sugar on demand is seriously fun. Busting it out for dessert is a guaranteed dinner party hit, and I’ve I’ve been on a shakemaking streak. Some of my favorites:
When a chocolate craving hits, this vanilla and chocolate shake is the answer. It’s speckled with chocolate chips and drizzled with ganache. I spun the cotton candy from cocoa sugar, and it was a chocoholic dream.
Have we met? I obviously had to embody myself in a pink unicorn shake! I blended dragonfruit with vanilla for flavor, bright pink color and a little bonus fiber. A cloud of puffy pink cotton candy was adorned with pink edible glitter and a unicorn pick, and the whole affair was a dream.
At this time of year, everyone is trying to clean up their eating, so I experimented with a healthier version. The smoothie is unsweetened Acai purée, spinach, mango, banana and berries. It’s jampacked full of good stuff, but pretty tart, so a more modest cotton candy pouf (less than a teaspoon of sugar used here) was the perfect stir-in for a smidge of sweetness.
And I had to revisit the original obsession, so I made a matcha-vanilla milkshake with boba and brown sugar cotton candy. All so, so good…. let me know which you try at home, or if you make it to Vivi!
